Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen)

As of 1 January 2019, the gambling market in Sweden is regulated by the Swedish Gambling Authority Spelinspektionen. The Gambling Act was enacted in 2018 by the Swedish Parliament, and it provides the legal framework for any gambling activities carried out in Sweden or offered by foreign companies to Swedish players. Any operator who wishes to offer their gambling services to players from Sweden needs to obtain a licence.

The Swedish Gambling Authority Spelinspektionen ↱ is a strict regulator that puts an emphasis on player protection, transparency, anti-money laundering and fraud prevention, and prevention of compulsive gambling. Checking the license of the Swedish online casino

The Swedish Gambling Authority doesn't currently offer a search-function on their website where you can find a company or website by name and check the status of a licence, instead, you can take a look at the list of licensed operators (in Swedish) ↱ and see all the licensed casinos there, and you can also see if the operator was previously sanctioned.

Companies, who apply for a Swedish gambling license need to fulfil strict requirements, and be able to prove that they have measures in place to safeguard players. The company will need to prove that they are operating their business according to the regulations and Swedish law.

If a company is found to be in breach of the regulations, the regulator can issue fines, sanctions or suspend the license altogether.
