About the Peruvial Sol

The Peruvian Sol ↱ (ISO: PEN, Currency Symbol S/) is the official currency of the South-American country Peru. In 1991, the sol replaced the previous currency Peruvian inti. 1 sol is divided into 100 céntimos. Although the word "sol" means "Sun" in Spanish, the word was originally derived from the Latin "solidus", which means ''solid".

The Peruvian inti was replaced due to its hyperinflation, and the new currency was initially called nuevo sol, which was later changed to sol. The currency is now stable, with a 2% inflation rate.
