About the Chilean Peso
The Republic of Chile uses the peso as their official currency. The Chilean peso ↱ uses the ISO code CLP. The currency symbol is the $ sign, and to distinguish the Chilean peso from other currencies that use the $ symbol, it's often written as CLP$.
One peso is subdivided into 100 centavos, but no centavos coins are available any more, due to the low value of a centavo. The lowest denominated coins are the 1 and 5 peso coin, but their manufacture has been discontinued.
The first peso was introduced in Chile in 1817, and it was used until 1960 when it was replaced with the Chilean escudo. The escudo was used until 1975, after which the second peso was introduced, and it's still used today.
Gambling itself is legal in Chile, but only at licensed brick and mortar casinos established in the country. However, current gambling laws exclude online gambling, which means online casinos are prohibited.
Although prohibited, residents in Chile are free to visit international online gambling websites. The problem with this is that the Chilean government has no say about the regulation of gambling and they cannot collect taxes on gaming revenue from international operators.
Since casino gambling and sports betting are both very popular activities in Chile it's likely that the government will at some point create laws that cover internet gambling.
In the meantime, we recommend playing at online casinos licensed by a European regulator, as these offer a lot of security and certified fair games. Take a look at this page to find online casinos that accept players from Chile.
You can always opt to play at a casino that doesn't support peso, and select another one during the registration. Sometimes the currency is pre-selected based on your location, which in most cases will be US dollar.
However, unless you have US dollar to spend, you will have to convert your peso into dollar, which is usually done as a service of the payment provider. This service is usually not free of charge, and most payment providers charge conversion fees, which are often hidden in the exchange rate.
Remember that once chosen, you won't be able to change your account currency at the casino, so you'll need to contact the customer support if you wish to do so.
Online Casinos for Chile players offer many payment methods that you can use to deposit or withdraw funds at the casino. These commonly include Visa and MasterCard credit cards, and e-wallets such as Neteller or Skrill, but those e-wallets don't support Chilean peso. In this case playing at a ecoPayz casino may be more convenient, as you can register a CLP account with this e-wallet provider.
Voucher payments like Astropay are also becoming more popular, and some also offer instant banking methods. It depends on the casino and their payment selection which methods you can choose from, so if you have a particular payment option in mind that you wish to use, take a look at our payments overview for more options.
Players from Chile are sometimes offered a casino welcome bonus, so take a look at these pages or the casino to find out if you're eligible to claim a bonus. There are some interesting casino bonuses that you can claim with peso, but make sure you read the terms and conditions when accepting bonus money from a casino.
Yes, a casino that allows you to select CLP as your account currency allows you to make withdrawals and deposits with peso. Remember to also use a payment option that supports peso payments if you wish to save conversion fees.
Online gambling at a licensed casino is usually safe, but you need to keep a few things in mind before depositing money at the casino. The first is to take a look at their license and check if it's still valid. A casino licensed in Europe usually displays their license information in the footer.
But it's not just a valid license that is important, also the reputation of the casino shouldn't be neglected. On CasinoDaemon.com we only recommend trusted and reputable casinos, and if a casino isn't trustworthy, we won't recommend it any longer.
A good casino will also offer fast withdrawals and transparent terms, which should all be available in the terms and conditions. Although it's tedious to read these, take a look anyways. We've collected some of the most important terms in our reviews as well, to make things easier for you.
To make sure player gamble responsibly, many casinos also allow you to create limits for your deposits or losses, and the Reality Check will remind you how long you've played already.
It's safe to say that players from Chile can play in a secure environment at trusted casinos, and they get the same safety that players from other countries enjoy. But it's important to be vigilant about the casino where you're playing and to read the terms carefully.
