Casinos that Accept the Croatian Kuna (HRK) Currency

When you decide to play in an online casino, there are few things to consider before making your choice of casino. Of course, we recommend to only play at a licensed casino with a good player reputation, but not only the license is important for the players, the account currencies and available payment methods are also something to think about.

Playing with your preferred currency has the advantage that you won't have to pay currency conversion fees with payment providers. The Croatian Kuna is not a widely accepted currency at online casinos, but there are some fantastic casinos that allow you to make deposits and withdrawals with kuna, without having to pay conversion fees.

Playing at an international online casino in Croatia has the advantage that players have a much larger selection of games available, including for example online slots, table games, live casino games against real dealers, sports betting, bingo, scratch cards and many more.

About the Croatian Kuna

Croatia's official currency is the kuna ↱. Introduced in 1994, the Croatian word "kuna" means "marten", and it's a reference to the marten pelts that were used as money in medieval times. 1 kuna is divided into 100 lipa, which means "linden tree", a type of lime tree that was common to be planted at Croatian marketplaces.

Before the kuna, Croatia used the Croatian dinar, which was only introduced in 1991, and itself replaced the Yugoslav dinar. It was an interim currency after the declaration of independence by Croatia, and used until 1994.

In general, gambling is legal in Croatia ↱ and has been regulated since 2010. Land-based casinos can often be found in the hotels in coastal tourist resorts. These casinos are not only open to tourists, residents are welcome to play there as well. There are currently around twenty casinos.

Local gambling operators can obtain a casino license from the Croatian regulator. Land-based operators also need a license to offer online gambling. These licences for online gambling are issued by the Ministry of Finance.

Lottery games, bingo, keno and sports betting are regulated and offered by the Hrvatska Lutrija, the national state lottery.

Since January 2019, foreign operators have to register with the authorities to offer their services to Croatian players. This means that players in Croatia also can legally play at many international online casinos, and enjoy thousands of casino games for real money.

Popular payment methods for players from Croatia

Croatian players have a number of payment methods available to them that they can use for deposits and/or withdrawals at online casinos. What's available depends on the casino, but most casinos accept credit cards and common e-wallets like EcoPayz and Skrill, which you can also use with Croatian kuna as an account currency.

Safety of online gambling for players with kuna

Online gambling is generally safe, provided you play at a licensed and reputable casino. But how do you know that a casino is trustworthy and not a scam? The first thing is to look at the license of the operator. Casinos licensed by a regulator from Europe, like for example the MGA or the UKGC are under more scrutiny, and have to follow tougher regulations than for example a casino licensed in Curaçao.

It's also important to play at recommended online casinos, as there are many trustworthy casinos licensed in Curaçao as well, although you might not enjoy strong player protection at one of these casinos. Casinos listed on this page are in good standing with their players.

Some of the key requirements of regulators are for example fair games and measures to protect vulnerable and problem gamblers. An online casino licensed by a European regulator is only allowed to offer certified casino games that have tested random number generators (RNG), and they have to disclose the return to player rate (RTP), among others.

Casino players from Croatia can play in a safe environment, and they will enjoy the same security and fair games, as every other player at licensed casinos.

Croatian Kuna FAQ

When you register your casino player account you will also select the currency, although some online casinos will automatically select the currency based on your location. If you have a payment account with Croatian kuna, the best thing is to also play at an online casino with HRK.

If you wish to play at a casino that doesn't support kuna, you can select a different currency - most casinos allow US dollars or euros for example. However, unless you have funds in the respective currency, you will have to pay currency conversion fees each time you send or receive money. These fees are usually charged by the payment provider processing the payment, and they can range from 1% to 4%, and are often concealed in an unfavourable exchange rate.

Many online casinos offer new players a welcome bonus or other bonuses that you can receive on your deposits. These bonuses can be in the form of casino bonus money or even extra spins on your deposit. If players from Croatia are offered a casino bonus they will also be able to claim it with kuna.

Sometimes, the bonuses are shown in US dollar amounts, but if you make your deposit with HRK, the amount will be automatically converted into kuna.

An online casino that allows you to select HRK for the account means that you can make deposits and withdrawals with kuna, and it won't cost you any currency conversion fees. You can take a look at some top online casinos with kuna here at CasinoDaemon.com.
