About the Yen ¥

The Yen ↱ (currency symbol: ¥) is the official currency of Japan, a large island nation in East Asia. It was officially introduced in 1871, and replaced the Tokugawa coinage system. Original coins were minted out of gold and silver, but were replaced with brass, copper-zinc alloys and aluminium from mid-20th century.
