Casinos That Accept Romanian Leu (RON) Currency

The currency of the casino player account is something that shouldn't be neglected when selecting an online casino to play at. Most online casinos accept common currencies like Euro or US Dollar, but what if you don't have any dollar or euro to spend?

Many online casinos accept more than one currency, but it can be difficult to find a casino that accepts specific currencies. If you have Romanian Leu to spend on gambling you can take a look at this page, as we've done some of the legwork for you to pick the best casinos with RON.

Keep in mind that although these casinos may accept RON payments, they may not accept players from Romania. It's important to note that many online casinos are blacklisted in the country due to the lack of a separate licence from the Romanian regulator.

About the Romanian Leu

The Romanian Leu ↱ (Iso code: RON) is the official currency of Romania. 1 Leu (which means 'lion') is divided into 100 bani (a word that also means 'money' in Romanian). The leu was first introduced in 1867, but has since undergone several re-denominations. Introduced in 2005, the fourth leu is in circulation today, and it got assigned the Iso code RON, after the old leu (ROL) was re-valued.

Romania is also considering joining the eurozone, but so far, no date for the adoption of the Euro has been set.

Gambling in land-based establishments and online casinos is legal in Romania, provided the operator is licensed by the Romanian gambling regulator (ONJN ↱), which was introduced in 2013 in an attempt to regulate the market better.

Many international operators have a license from the ONJN, but many don't, as a requirement is to have a representative in Romania, and many operators consider the regulator to not be conform with the laws of the European Commission with regards to the free market, and they find the regulations are too strict.

Although there are many online casinos blacklisted by the regulator, some online casinos still accept players from Romania, as they consider it a grey market. We don't recommend you break any laws, and this page is aimed at people outside of Romania, who wish to spend Leu at the casino.

Popular payment methods for players with Romanian Leu

Available payment methods at casinos depend on your country of residence. Most casinos accept credit cards, e-wallets and vouchers. If you're thinking of a specific method that you wish to use, take a look at our payments overview for more methods.

E-wallets are a quick and convenient method to deposit and withdraw at casinos, and there are some that allow you to select RON as an account currency - Payz, Skrill, Neteller, Jeton and MiFinity are among some of the most popular.

You may also have the option to use an instant banking service, like Rapid Transfer, Trustly or Klarna, all of them offering quick deposits to online casinos.

Safety of online gambling for players with Romanian Leu

Online gambling can be a safe activity, but you have to keep a few things in mind. Take a look at the license of the operator, as the licensing country gives an indication of how regulated and fair the operator is. A casino licensed in Malta or the UK is generally under stricter supervision than a casino licensed in Curacao.

A safe online casino is transparent about their payment terms, has reasonable fees, or none even, they list the RTP of the games (also in-game info), they offer you measures to control your spending or playing time at the casino, and they are always ready to help and assist you.

What's even more important than the license though is the reputation of the casino. There are many Curacao-licensed casinos that have a great reputation, and many with a UK license and a bad reputation. Casinos listed on this page have a generally favourable reputation with players.

Romanian Leu FAQ

Most online casinos accept US Dollar or Euro as an account currency, but once you've chosen RON for the account you can't change it at a later date. If you wish to change the currency you have to contact support and initiate the steps to close the account and register a new one at the casino.

Don't just go ahead and register a second account, as this is prohibited by virtually all casinos, and they can void your winnings if you don't tell them.

A casino bonus is offered to players from some countries, and whether you can get one or not depends on a few factors, the most important being your country of residence, and others for example if a user from your household or IP has already received one.

If you're being offered a casino bonus you can also claim it with a RON payment, and if the bonus amount isn't shown in RON, it will be automatically converted.

A casino that accepts RON as an account currency allows you to make deposits and withdrawals with Leu, and you won't have to pay conversion fees. Keep in mind to also use a payment method that allows you to pay with leu.
